MUNICIPAL PROJECT
Shield Engineering Group provided the City of Arlington with civil engineering design services to alleviate flooding of residential properties on Wimbledon Drive and South Bowen Road.
Even after small storm events, residents reported substantial ponding in roads and large amounts of stormwater running through their properties. To alleviate these issues, Shield Engineering designed a new storm system that carried captured storm water from the impacted roads and residences to a new channel outfall located behind an existing school property.
Shield and the City of Arlington agreed to make small improvements to part of the school’s parking lot that was affected by construction. The Shield Team designed a new outfall which included gabion baskets and a rock riprap for flood control in the surrounding areas.
In 2018, this project was completed within the 3-month timeline of summer break to limit any impacts on the school and its students caused by construction.
